Life is like a puddle

Ever notice how kids are drawn to puddles?

They see the opportunity for fun. They will go out of their way to get to it.

They don’t care about getting what they are wearing dirty. They don’t care that their clothes will be wet for most of the day. These thoughts don’t even cross their mind.

They see the moment. They see the fun. They full out experience the joy of it all.

As an adult we see a puddle as an obstacle to avoid and walk around. Something that will get us dirty, be it our clothes or shoes, or even freshly washed cars.

How dare mother nature place a puddle there right?

Ever notice how life is like that?

As a kid, I didn’t have all these ‘rules’ holding me back. I was happy and messy and well, not in my head. I lived in my heart.

As I grew I learned the ‘rules’ we are told to follow. Which, then made me pause at puddles. My heart would say- jump in! But then my head would say- wait! That’s not appropriate.

This can relate to anything in life.

Emotions. As a kid we likely expressed what we felt. As an adult we may tend to hold back or filter them.

Ideas. As a kid we embraced imagination. As an adult we can tend to follow the status quo.

Expression. As a kid we didn’t care if our pink shirt clashed with our burgundy pants and purple princess slippers. As an adult we tend to follow the fashion trends.

Careers. As a kid we believed we could be and do anything! As an adult we listen to what we’re told we’re capable of, or follow where the money is.

You name it. As a kid we didn’t filter our heart. We were raw and innocent. Curious and creative. As an adult we worry what people will think. We are safe and selective.

The list could go on and on. And perhaps you are still a child in these areas, which is awesome! Keep playing!

And perhaps you see yourself on the adult side. No worries. You’re not alone.

We are all finding our way along this journey and seeing where joy is for us again. We are all finding our way back to our puddles.

I don’t know about you, but puddles are calling me to play. That young girl wants to splash. She wants to get muddy. She wants to embrace the mess.

She know’s it’s a journey of seeing the lessons for what they were, and learning the lesson from that.

A journey of courage to bypass the rules and get muddy.

It’s a messy journey.

It’s a journey of the heart.

It’s a journey.

And… it’s a puddle.

Time to put on that pink shirt, burgundy pants and purple princess slippers and jump in this messy blessing that is life.
